Khammouane province is a paradise for water lover with a large network of rivers, streams. This new circuit will afford you to experience some unique sceneries into the heart of the largest limestone forest of Laos. Day 1
Departure at 8:30am from your hotel in Thakhek towards Mahaxay district. After around 90 minutes of transfer through a beautiful region, we will arrive at Ban Hainphavieng where we will load our equipment for our expedition. Once ready to start, instruction and explanation will be given about the behavior to adopt on water when kayaking. Then, time to embark on your kayak to start your cruise down.
The first leg of the trip will lead us through some luxurious tropical vegetation and along your way you may as well be lucky to observe some birds. Our picnic lunch will be taken right on the shore of the river near Ban Nakhai and will let us as well time for relaxing, chilling out and swimming before to continue our discovery. Pursuit of the cruise along the river for around 2 hours before stopping to install our camp on a beautiful island. Dinner on the island around a beautiful campfire.
Approximately: 1 ½ hour transfer/ 5 hours kayaking.
Day 2
Wake up with the bird songs and enjoy a strong breakfast before getting on your kayak. Today, we will cruise down to Mahaxay. The first part of the trip will offer you one of the best scenery of the region with a quiet river sliding between cliffs and limestone reliefs covered by tropical lush forests such as Pha Nongkagnoy and Pha Pakgnom. On your way, you may encounter kids swimming in the river or locals fishing with traditional methods. Lunch will be taken into the nice village of Ban Dang before ending our cruise in Mahaxay where our vehicle will pick up us and our stuff to return back to Thakhek.
Approximately: 1 hour transfer/ 6 hours kayaking
Note: The trip is doable in the dry season from October to May.
