Streaming out from Luang Prabang, over the past year, Green Discovery has been active with climbers from England and Nepal to commence the astounding potential for world class sport climbing in the Luang Prabang area called Gecko Mountain. An indefectible climb were uncovered and establish downstream on Mekong River from town, a 25 minutes boat ride away with a total of 8 routes ranging from (French) 5-8a+.
Anybody with a drill and the skill are welcomed. There's a plethora of rocks in on the face of Gecko Mountain towering over the Mekong River that ambles through the town of Luang Prabang in northern Laos. The scene of the Mekong River against the mountains in Luang Prabang in the foreground is truly cliff-hanging from where the climb is after you get over the treetops. The landscape is worth it also while on the boat to and from Gecko Mountain. It is satisfying; especially at the end of the day after the climb during sunset on the way back to town or at the mise-en-scene.

There are the classic erect limestone, edge stones plus dark, light and solid color Rocks, so… climb and enjoy!

Course Information

1 Day Course:
Instruction: learn basic knots, climbing techniques, and how to work belay device.

Approximately: 15 minutes transfer/30 minutes instruction/ 6 hours climbing

3 Days Course
Day 1: Instruction: learn basic knots, climbing techniques, and how to work belay device.

Approximately: 15 minutes transfer/ 30 minutes instruction/ 5-6 hours climbing

Day 2: Instruction: build on basic climbing techniques with the security of top rope and begin to learn lead climbing basics through second climbing.

Approximately: 15 minutes transfer/ 1hour instruction/ 3-4 hours climbing

Day 3: Instruction: what it's all about! Lead climbing basics and push yourself as
hard as you want on top rope.

Approximately: 15 minutes transfer/ 1 hour instruction/ 3-4 hours climbing

* Maximum of 8 per tour

Note: Climbing Permit Fee US$5 per person
Private climbers visiting Luang Prabang can share transportation to Gecko Mountain by meeting at our Luang Prabang office at 9 am.
Climbers can access the crags free of charge. 1 to 3 day courses and equipment rental are available at Green Discovery in Luang Prabang
