This guide tour takes the visitor to the major historical sights of the World Heritage Site of Luang Prabang, before exploring scenic spots in the surrounding countryside.
Option 1: Half day tour can be done in the morning or in the afternoon
Itinerary: City tour - Ban Phanom – Ban Xang Khong
We will visit old Royal Palace which was built in 1904-1905; and Wat Visoun which was built by Visounnarath in 1513; Wat Xieng Thong was built by Sayasettha in 1565. We continue to Ban Phanom, waving village and Ban Xang Khong, Sa paper making village, then back to the town
Option 2: 1 day tour Itinerary: City tour - Ban Phanom - Tad Se
The first half of the day is spent visiting the Museum in the former Royal Palace and the monasteries Vat Xieng Thong, Vat Saen and Vat Vixoun.
After lunch, transport is provided to the nearby traditional Tai Lue weaving village Ban Phanom. This village is famed for its intricately woven textiles and special weaving techniques - in former times, it was the weaver colony of the Luang Prabang Royalty.
The very scenic Tad Sae Waterfall can be reached on the Nam Khan from Ban Phanom by long-tail boat - best during and after the rainy season. Its numerous cascades and pools are an ideal place for bathing.
On the way to the Tad Sae Waterfall lies the tomb of the 19th century French explorer Henri Mouhot, the first European to rediscover Angkor Wat and to visit the Royal Kingdom of Luang Prabang.
