The trek starts in the Hmong village of Nayoum Dang Tai. Climbing through plantation forest, eventually we’ll enter Thongli’s cattle farm. Upon request by Green Discovery, Mr. Thongli, the former vice governor of the province, has set aside 200 m on either side of the trekking trail as reserve forest. This reserve forest ends at the giant fig tree. The local villages believe that this fig tree is inhabited by spirits. Beyond the fig tree is the land of Ban Sida and the old road to China. The old road will follow a ridge line before our trail breaks way to drop down to the rice paddies of Ban Sida. Walking across the paddies we’ll see the village of the Sida ethnic group in the distance. The Sida will be our hosts for the night. The villagers have interesting legends about how they came to be. Ask our guide to translate them for you.
Approximately: 1 ½ hour transfer/ 6 hours trekking
After breakfast, we depart from the village returning through the rice paddies and then back up to the ridge to join the old again for a while. The trail will climb up to the top of a small mountain where we’ll have lunch before descending through reserve forest and the broad vistas of surrounding mountains. The trail ends again on the old road at the Lanten village of Ban Nam Dee. We take a refreshing shower in the village’s waterfall before returning to Luang Namtha
Approximately: 15 minutes/ 5 hours trekking
