Champi Creek, considered a small river, feeds into Xe Done River, affectionately called 'The Xé', which leads into the great Mekong. This one day trip is just right for those who want the challenge and excitement while seeing a bit of the local countryside.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Pakse - Ban Km 23 – Tad Phasuom - Pakse
Depart Pakse, we drive toward Bolaven Plateau and stop at kilometer 23, a Mon-Khmer village. We take a walk downhill with local guides on villagers’ trails. The guides will bring our rafts or kayaks down to the starting point for our kayaking at the gorge while we go trekking to this place for about 1 hour through a shrub forest and village fields. We enter the roaring Champi Creek, with 6-7 sets of rapids, the last being a climactic grade 3 pool, and cruise to the old steel bridge built by the former Soviet Union. Picnic lunch stop is made along the creek during the trip. We’ll visit Tad Phasuom Waterfall, where we end our kayaking before driving back to Pakse in the late afternoon.
Approximately: 1 hour 40 minutes transfer / 3½ to 4 hours kayaking or rafting, depending on water levels / 1 hour trekking
Note: The trip is doable during the wet season from June to December. It is recommended to the experienced kayaker as well as the beginner.
