The Bolaven Plateau is famous for its cool climate and stunning waterfalls. Numerous ethnic minority peoples settled here over the centuries. On its fertile volcanic soils high grade coffee plantations abound. Other local products include fruits, cardamom and rattan. It is also known for being one of the most heavily bombed areas during the Second Indochina War. Take the opportunity to discover this Plateau with all its diversity in landscape and people.
Itinerary:
Departure from Green Discovery Laos, Pakse office, at 8:30 am. About 12 km out of town you will visit the Lao coffee company Dao Huang, before we drive for about 40 minutes to see a local tea and coffee plantation. Here you can watch how they make a green tea and roast coffee. Please taste the finished product. After that we drive to the 120 meters Tad Fan waterfall. After relaxing and photographing the fall we trek* through dense forest where we can see lots of different birds. If we are lucky, monkeys and wild goats will appear. We stop for a picnic lunch in the forest, stroll along to Tad Yeaung waterfall, enjoy a beautiful swimming spot (do not forget to bring your clothing to change) before trekking up to Tad Yeaung through coffee farms. After a rest at the fall, we get on our vehicle and drive to the highland area of the plateau to visit the local market at Paksong, the Lao coffee capital and home of many Mon-Khmer minority groups. There you will learn and experience how coffee is made, collected and roasted in the farm. We return to the main road to head back to Tad Phasuam waterfall. You will enjoy visiting ethnic minorities in Southern Laos (Laven, Taoy , Aluk, etc), a traditional marriage house, weaving and museum. After that, we return to Pakse at about 5:30 pm.
Approximately: trekking 1½–2 hours/ transfer and sightseeing 5½-6 hours
*Please note: The trek from Tad Fan to Tad Yeaung is only possible in the dry season. In the wet season we drive directly to Tad Yeaung
