Fun Ride to Phou Khao Khuay NPA

(1 day motorbike trip, all seasons)
Phou Khao Khuay NBCA

A good get-away to Phou Khao Khouay NPA – the closest National Protected Area to Vientiane, and a bike ride makes it even better! We will be taken on a fun ride and stop en route for some great views and visits to local villages.

Itinerary:

Vientiane – Ban Napheng – Phou Khao Khouay NPA – Nam Ngum Reservoir – Ban Pa Pek – Ban Vang Hua - Ban Napheng – Vientiane (150km)

Off RoadWe depart from Vientiane, drive north along the road No 10. After 45 km, we reach Ban Napheng where we will see the sign for the National Park of Phou Khao Khouay. From here we begin to ride on a dusty road until we get to a checkpoint for entry permit. We enjoy the best part of our ride from here!

We follow the dusty and hilly road until we reach the top of the mountain covered by pine trees (900m ASL). On the way up we have great views over the Vientiane plain. We then take a rocky trail for a short fun ride before we go back on an easier one.

We continue to drive around the Nam Ngum reservoir. We will make a stop at the Hmong village of Ban Pa Pek, where we will have a late lunch. We also have time to visit the village of Ban Vang Hua. After that, we ride back to the Ban Napheng where we meet the Road No. 10 for our journey back to Vientiane.
