Trekking in Xepian 3 days

Champassak TrekkingThe Xe Pian National Protected area is famous for its extensive wetlands which are home to rare wildlife as elephants, gaur, sun, Asiatic black bears and the yellow cheeked gibbon. This exciting expedition takes you through this fascinating area on a long but easy trek giving you plenty of opportunities to see the wildlife and visit ethnic villages as well as the amazing experience of overnight camping in the middle of the jungle!

Day 1: Pakse > Kiet Ngong> Xe Pian National Protected Area

We depart at 8 am from our office in Pakse and transfer to Ban Kiet Ngong via local transport. The village lies on the edge of the Xe Pian National protected area and is where we will meet our local guide. Before beginning trekking our guide will tell us some fascinating information about the forest, wildlife and different uses of plants for use as traditional medicine.

After learning about the forest we begin trekking and head off through the forest into the nature reserve. Continuing onwards we will see elephants working in the jungle, we carry on trekking until lunchtime when we stop along the way to enjoy a delicious picnic lunch in the midst of the forest. After our lunch and taking some time to relax we continue onwards through the thick jungle, along the way we can observe the many different types of birds and if lucky we may also see some monkeys passing by! At around 4:30 pm we stop to set up our camp for the night, we spend the night in the middle of the jungle and enjoy a dinner cooked over the campfire!

Approximately: 1.5 hours transfer, 5  hours trekking

Day 2: Xe Pian National Protected Area

We will wake up early to the sounds of the jungle and enjoy and early breakfast at around 7:30am. After breakfast we head off trekking, today we will discover the Xe Pian wetlands and enjoy and an area of jungle which is rarely touched by outsiders. We carry on walking through the forest until stopping for a picnic lunch. After enjoying our lunch and taking some time to relax we walk further through forest where we will some really gigantic ancient trees and pass many small rivers. This area around 100 years ago was home to people of the Mon Khmer ethnic group however they have now abandoned the area, leaving it a Mecca for wildlife! Upon arriving at the Nam Ta Euang river we take some time to relax at this beautiful spot which is situated amongst some perfect surroundings and is where we shall set up camp and spend the night.

Approximately:  5 hours trekking

Day 3: Xe Pian National Protected Area > Phou Asa Temple > Ban Kiet Ngong > Pakse

On day three we begin with another early start and enjoy breakfast cooked over the campfire whilst watching and listening to the birds around us feeding in the trees, you may also have the chance to see and hear the rare yellow cheeked gibbons who live in the area. After our breakfast we continue on walking through the forest along the banks of the Nam Ta Euang river. As we carry onwards we visit the stunning Phou Asa Temple before heading through a thick bamboo forest. We stop along the way back we stop for a picnic lunch, arriving back in Ban Kiet Nong at around 4:30pm, here awaits our transport for the transfer back to Pakse.

Approximately: 5  hours trekking, 1.5 hour transfer
